How our system works

Changes include:

  • Visual asset updates (using HD model)
  • Rework ceres_justusfans_event_2 scene
  • Rework elena_boyfriend_fight scene
  • Rework elena_ceres_argument scene
  • Rework steve hex scene
  • Use vp9 with constant quality mode for 3D image stills
  • Train on 550px images resized/cropped to 512px to avoid stretching (blurring)
  • Add voice for Tess (modified from Ceres voice powered by Endymion)

This is a quality update. We have reworked several scenes and added thousands of images to our AI training dataset. Many generated images have noticeable improvements as a result.

Response to Feedback

Catching Heat is an experiment. When I began development a year ago, I crafted a story that was short enough and simple enough to attempt to use AI to provide the graphical and other elements of the game. This story was intended as a prelude to other, more complex stories that I wanted to tell of Euryale and Elena's adventures. The hope was to develop the technology enough to attract and build a community interested in AI art and adult visual novels to help fund continued development. Granted this is a super-niche, I didn't expect much and I cannot tell you how grateful I am to those few individuals that appreciated this effort to back up their appreciation with monetary support. Even with that benevolent trickle of support, the costs of development are burying this project alive. Because of this, I decided to begin development of Euryale's Gambit, the sequel to Catching Heat early. This new game is designed to be a more traditional visual novel (VN) and designed to be much easier to develop than Catching Heat. The goal is to make a VN that appeals to a much wider audience to bring in financial support for further AI development on Catching Heat and future projects. However, Euryale's Gambit (EG) is still in early development with only two releases so far. I am hopeful that EG is attractive and fun enough to garner support.

Moving forward, I'm discontinuing development of Catching Heat and will instead focus on Euryale's Gambit's development moving forward. The important parts of Catching Heat's story will be told through flashbacks/dreams in Euryale's Gambit.

What about the AI work?

The visual AI technology is promising, but it's not even close to being good enough. I'm continuing to conduct experiments to improve the technology and I'll keep an eye out for advancements in the field of research. It's still really fun for me we we'll see where it goes.
